Established in May 2010 by Nibi Lawson, naturalista and general kinky-hair enthusiast, our main aim was to ensure superior hair products and education were within the reach of people in Nigeria who had made the decision for themselves that they no longer wanted to relax their hair, but were at a loss on what to do next.
We stock a large
variety of natural hair brands, free of sulphates, silicones, mineral oil and
other ingredients which are not particularly beneficial to our hair, including:
Jane Carter Solution, Aubrey Organics, Giovanni Cosmetics, Dr Bronner, Bee Mine, Naturalista Cosmetics, Bobeam and a whole lot more. We also sell a large
variety of hair tools and accessories. We are the official Nigerian stockist of
all the brands we supply, and are constantly trying to build on relationships,
which means more brands at The Apothecary in the near future. We are
also extremely passionate about seeking out and promoting high quality Nigerian
natural hair and body product manufacturers, with Neriah Naturals and African Naturalista already on our books, and a number of others on the way.
Although it is not as hard as it may seem, going natural can be daunting so The Kinky
Apothecary also aims to educate by organising frequent workshops and events.
Far from feeling like a chore as education sometimes can, we attempt to inject
fun into the proceedings, most notably with our Champagne, Cupcakes &
Curltalk events.
People often ask if
the products we supply are suitable for relaxed hair, and the answer is YES
THEY ARE! The internet is choc full of relaxed ladies who have benefitted from
following a natural hair regime, and although our main focus is... and will always be... natural hair, we have a large number of relaxed
customers.
We read the labels on everything we stock, so you don't have to. And everything we sell has been personally tested by us (and our testers have a wide variety of kinks, curls and hair properties), so our recommendations are based on experience.
So you know you can trust what we stock, because if we wouldn't put it in our own kinks, we won't try and sell it to you!
